State Police seize illegally possessed firearm following Malta traffic stop

On June 25, 2025, State Police of Saratoga arrested Timothy A. Aurand, 49 of Port Royal, PA for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the third degree, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

On June 25, 2025, at about 9:39 p.m. Troopers stopped a vehicle being driven by Aurand for multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations on Interstate-87 in Malta, NY. During the investigation, it was determined that Aurand’s driving privileges were suspended in New York and he showed signs of impairment. Aurand was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. With the assistance of Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Praga, an illegally possessed handgun loaded with an illegal high-capacity magazine was located in Aurand’s vehicle and was subsequently seized.
