State Police in Lyons arrest man for burglary and assault

The New York State Police in SP Lyons report the arrest of Philip Michael Galek, age 33, of Lyons, NY, following an investigation into a violent disturbance that occurred on April 12, 2026, at approximately 9:05 p.m. on State Route 14 in the town of Lyons, Wayne County.

Troopers were dispatched by Wayne County 911 to a reported burglary in progress and assault at a residence. Investigation determined that Galek allegedly struck a male victim multiple times with a metal garden stake outside the residence, causing physical injury. The victim fled into his home; however, Galek forcibly entered the residence by breaking through glass doors while armed with the metal stake and continued the assault.

Galek subsequently fled but returned a short time later, where he allegedly pursued both the male victim and a female victim into a garage, striking them multiple times with two metal garden stakes, causing further injuries. Troopers arrived on scene and took Galek into custody without incident.

Both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including bruising and abrasions.

As a result of the investigation, Galek was charged with the following:

•    Burglary in the First Degree (B felony)

•    Burglary in the Second Degree (C felony)

•    Two counts of Assault 2nd degree (D felony)

Galek was transported to the Wayne County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Processing.

The investigation remains ongoing.
