Scammers targeting drivers and the public

There are multiple reports of scammers targeting drivers while waiting for the red light stating their spouse/friend is sick from the coronavirus and need a ride to the hospital. Their excuse of calling 911 is backlogged and can't wait for death by sob stories. Multiple drivers were robbed of their belongings and some cases their vehicles. At the same time, scammers are targeting walkers outside to use their phone to make emergency calls only to run away with it. Bayside reported over 10 incidents mainly in the vicinity of Bell Blvd. Glen Oaks reported just about the same on Union Turnpike and 260 Street. Jackson Heights had the most incidents. Due to high nature of NYPD officers calling in sick, people are advised to use their common sense and practice social distancing to avoid such incidents.
