Sanitation worker injured after substance exploded in Jamaica Estates

Police reported a city sanitation worker was injured when an unknown substance exploded while removing trash. It happened around 10am on Wexford Terrace and Edgerton Blvd in Jamaica Estates. The worker suffered injuries to both arms. The information of the chemical substance has not been released due to ongoing investigation.

Update - This is from DSNY, "An incorrectly disposed of fire extinguisher caused explosion in our truck. Fire extinguishers & pressurized tanks require special disposal - if not, injuries to Workers & passersby can result."
