Queens man walked into Bayside police station wanted for stealing Millennium

On Tuesday, August 1st around 4pm, Shawn Waters, 36 of Queens walked into 111th Precinct on Northern Blvd by Bell Blvd and told the front desk he didn't steal the turtle but found it elsewhere. Waters admitted to trading the tortoise in Connecticut but detectives reported his story had too many flaws and weren't connecting properly. He is charged with theft and possession of stolen property. The theft of popular tortoise Millennium happened on July 16 from Alley Pond Environmental Center and was returned on July 24 when the Connecticut man realized he had the possession of a stolen animal after trading for another turtle with Waters. This is Water's 27th arrest. Alley Pond Environmental Center is now building a secure center to prevent future animal thefts. Correction - Waters had 36 prior arrests and not 27.
