Priest of the Hindu Temple in Floral Park attacked

Police reported Swamiji Chander Puri was attacked on Thursday around 11am at the Shiv Shakti Peeth Hindu Temple in Floral Park. He was attacked on Hillside Avenue and 265 Street while walking to the temple in a traditional dress. The suspect, Sergio Gouveia, 52 has been taken into custody and charged with assault, harassment and weapon possession. So far he has not been charged with hate crime due to ongoing investigation. The priest was released from the hospital after injuries. Ongoing investigation.
