Police officer struck by vehicle in South Ozone Park

On Sunday night around 8pm, a police officer pulled over a driver near 109th Avenue and Centerville Street for a traffic stop.

When the officer approached the driver in a black Chevy, the suspect ran over the officer's foot and took.

EMS transported the officer to a local hospital with injuries.

According to NYPD data, for the year 2023 alone, 5,363 cops were injured on the job, the highest. Of that, 1,286 cops were injured in struggles with the suspect in the final quarter of 2023.

Two main reasons are protests and migrants.

NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell stated that there is an uptick in migrant crime and curfews have been put in place.

As for protests, the NYC Mayor is silent.

Today there is a large protest in Astoria with road closures unofficially and NYPD continue to monitor the scene including subways.
