Police fatally shoot woman who stabbed two people in times square

A woman was shot and killed by New York City police on Monday after she stabbed two people in Times Square, authorities reported at a press conference.

NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch labeled the stabbings as “random and unprovoked” attacks by a woman with a history of mental health issues.

The suspect, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros from Queens, approached a 68-year-old man in Times Square and stabbed him in the abdomen with two knives. Shortly after, she attacked a woman, stabbing her in the stomach.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after and attempted to engage with Cisneros for about four minutes, but efforts to persuade her to drop the weapons were unsuccessful.

According to Tisch, body camera footage revealed that Cisneros defiantly told police, “I’m not dropping anything, I would rather kill both of you.”

Attempts to subdue her with stun guns were ineffective as she continued to advance with the knives. Eventually, two officers discharged their weapons, an event that was also captured on body cameras.

Cisneros and her two victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital, where Cisneros and the female victim were pronounced dead. The male victim is currently stable and recovering.

Both Tisch and Mayor Zohran Mamdani defended the officers' use of lethal force, though the incident will be investigated as is standard for police-involved shootings in New York.
