One part of LIRR station opens today now comes the protests

The MTA has fanfare today after the new LIRR station opened in Elmont. This is the first station in 50 years opened to the public. Only one part is open and the other service is for shuttles. While MTA says this will relieve congestion encouraging people to use mass transit including to the new UBS Arena, local residents are worried more problems will be coming to their communities.

This is the statement from the group that oppose in Queens Village

Shuttle buses to and from Elmont UBS arena is opposed by community residents in Queens Village. We fear shuttle busses will be a nightmare for area residents adding to traffic congestion because of turns onto Springfield Blvd. Passengers who live in Queens Village and Elmont are outraged to learn that no additional bus service will be provided on the Q2, Q110 and N6 routes before and after games to accommodate additional 8,000 additional fans who will come by bus, says President of Passengers United Charlton D’souza who organized the protest today after the MTA’s announcement.
