One member of FDNY at Glen Oaks suffered scabies

FDNY reported one firefighter at the Engine 251 on Union Turnpike and 255 Street in Glen Oaks suffered scabies.

The scabies is intensely itchy rash caused by a mite known as Sarcoptes scabiei according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

It can spread easily under crowded conditions where close body and skin contact is common.

The fire house was closed on Friday afternoon pending decontaminate all around inside.

This is the second incident after the first one reported at Engine 320 in Auburndale on Thursday around 6pm. The same fire fighter at Engine 320 was assigned to Engine 251.

Both fire houses will remain closed until further notice and other fire fighters are stationed nearby for 911 calls.
