NYPD press statement on the fatal LIE accident

On Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 1325 hours police responded to a report of a vehicle collision on the east bound side of the Long Island Expressway at Exit 17, within the confines of the 104 Precinct. A preliminary investigation revealed that a black Honda SUV had veered to the left and flipped over the center divider. The vehicle landed in the west bound lane where it was struck by four other vehicles. The driver of the Honda SUV, a 67 year-old male was found in critical condition with severe injuries to the body. There were a total of six people injured from the four vehicles in the westbound lane, two of which refused medical attention at the scene. EMS transported the 67 year-old male to Elmhurst General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Four other males were also transported to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition. One motorist was taken into custody at the scene and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
