NYC Council approves the plan to shut down Rikers Island

The NYC Council needed 26 votes to approve the plan to shut down the Rikers Island and it has been cast. The jail will be closed in 2026 and replace with 4 smaller borough based jails in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
At the moment, roll call going on in the Council Chambers.
Its a $9 billion dollar project.
