Mayor announced the 2021 budget for NYC

The budget for NYC for the year 2021 is $88.1 billion down from $95.3 billion the mayor proposed before the pandemic. At the same time, framework to deduct the budget from NYPD has been worked out. The City Council is expected to vote tonight and the mayor is expected to sign it. The highlights are July classes to recruit 1,100 cops will be postponed until October. Overtime budget cut by $296 million projected only if crime doesn't spike but from that portion, $115 million spent during protests for cops on duty. $115 million will go into teen summer programs for 100,000 youths and $450 million for community centers in various locations. For schools, there will be $400 million cut. As for laying off the 22,000 city works on October 1, it's still in place. The biggest surprise was $65 million cut to Fair Fares, the program launched last year for low income people to travel for work and schools which caused uproar among members of City Councils in their districts.
