Mastic Beach man indicted for possessing unserialized firearms

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Ronald Benini, 49, of Mastic Beach, was indicted for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and other related charges, for allegedly possessing six unserialized firearms, high-capacity magazines, and lower receivers.

“This defendant is alleged to have manufactured untraceable firearms inside his Mastic Beach home,” said District Attorney Tierney. “This case demonstrates our commitment to ridding Suffolk County of illegally possessed guns to ensure safety within our community, and to save lives.”

According to the investigation, between April 2026 and July 2026, Benini allegedly manufactured ghost guns using 3D printers inside his Mastic Beach home. On July 2, 2026, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence and allegedly recovered six unserialized pistols, 3D printed lower receivers, 3D printers, printer filament, and manuals on how to construct ghost guns. Additionally, Benini allegedly possessed two high-capacity ammunition feeding devices/magazines, and a homemade silencer.

On July 23, 2026, Benini was arraigned on the indictment before Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz for the following charges:

· Seven counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Class C violent felonies;

· Four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Class D felonies;

· Six counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Class A misdemeanors; and

· Seven counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, Class A misdemeanors.

Justice Horowitz ordered Benini held on $150,000 cash, $300,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case. Benini is due back in court on August 18, 2026, and faces up to fifteen years in prison if convicted of the top count.
