Massapequa woman indicted for fatally stabbing 28 year old man in his sleep

Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced that a Massapequa woman has been indicted for murder for fatally stabbing a 28-year-old man while he was sleeping in his home.

Kristin Sculley, 22, was arraigned today before Judge Robert Bogle on a grand jury indictment charge of Murder in the Second Degree (an A-I felony).

The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded. She is due back in court on July 24, 2026. If convicted, she faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

“In the middle of the night, while Robert Carragher III lay asleep in his own bed, the defendant allegedly plunged a switchblade into his neck,” said DA Donnelly. “Kristin Sculley was welcomed into the victim’s home as a trusted acquaintance, yet she retrieved a knife from her purse to allegedly carry out this brutal attack. No family should ever have to endure the nightmare that the victim’s parents experienced as their son died in their arms. My office is committed to seeking justice and we intend to hold the defendant fully accountable for this horrific crime.”

DA Donnelly said that, according to the indictment, on May 31, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the defendant arrived at 59 Beaumont Avenue in Massapequa, where the victim, Robert Carragher III, lived with his parents.

Sculley was known to the victim and they had been acquaintances for several years.

On the evening of May 31, 2026, the defendant spent several hours at the victim’s house and was watching television in his basement bedroom.

At some point in the early morning of June 1, 2026, the defendant left the victim’s bedroom to retrieve a knife from her purse, which was located in an adjacent room.

The defendant subsequently returned to the bedroom and allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck as he was sleeping.

Carragher woke up and ran upstairs to his parents’ room yelling that he had been stabbed.

When members of the Nassau County Police Department arrived on the scene, they found the victim lying on the kitchen floor with a stab wound to his neck. Carragher was pronounced deceased.

Police located the defendant hiding in the basement laundry room, which is located in the basement near the victim’s bedroom, with blood on her clothing. A knife was also recovered in the laundry room.
