January 15 deadline is the new date set for eviction in NYS

The NY governor stated both Assembly and Senate placed a deal with the legislature to extend the date of eviction moratorium to January 15, 2022. The session will start immediately to pass which will expire tonight at midnight.

Tenants will have to prove hardship related to the pandemic in event the landlord does the eviction proceeding. Landlords still have to pay all bills even if they have to borrow on top of the property if tenants are approved of the hardship from court.

The NYC Mayor's office confirmed $64 million were alloted to 15 non-profit to help tenants with outreach and applications which are written in English. The money will go to salaries for all working for the 15 organizations and promote voting parties. The governor will announce the next set of rent relief funds to be released.

In the meanwhile, tenants and homeless displaced into shelters for free are protesting their right to demand to live in hotels paid by taxpayers. This is due to the violence and lack of adequate necessities for basic means of living including food.
