Hudson man arrested for strangulation in the Town of Stockport

On August 4, 2026, New York State Police in Livingston were dispatched to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson regarding a reported assault.

An investigation determined that Robert M. Gadway, 41, of Hudson, became irate while at a private residence in the Town of Stockport and struck the victim multiple times. Gadway then placed the victim in a rear chokehold, restricting the victim’s breathing. The victim broke free and fled to a vehicle, at which point Gadway followed and broke the driver’s-side door window before the victim drove away.

Gadway was later located and charged with the following:

• Strangulation 2nd: Obstructing Breathing or Blood Circulation Causing Physical Injury, a class D felony

•  Assault 3rd: Intent to Cause Physical Injury, a class A misdemeanor

• Criminal Mischief 4th: Recklessly Damaging Property, a class A misdemeanor

Gadway was arraigned in the Town of Stockport Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail.
