Homicide update in Hempstead

The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Homicide that occurred on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 5:35 AM in Hempstead.
According to Detectives, Hempstead Police responded to 911 call at 45 Jackson Avenue for a male bleeding in the stairwell. Upon arrival officers observed a 53-year-old-male bleeding and unresponsive. The victim suffered apparent puncture wounds from an unknown subject and was pronounced at scene by medical personnel.
The investigation is ongoing.
Detectives request anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.

The victim has been identified as Marlon Rivas-Aguilar, 53 of Freeport.

The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Melbis Hernandez, 36, of Hempstead (homeless) for the above incident. He is charged with Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on November 6, 2023, at First District Court in Hempstead.
