Hands down its Highlander leaving NYC

The NYPD reported the most stolen autos in NYC is the Toyota Highlander. For the boroughs, Queens reported the most incidents mostly from Bayside, Flushing, Bellerose, Glen Oaks to Little Neck.

For the month of January, Bellerose and Glen Oaks reported 14 vehicle thefts followed by 11 in Bayside.

According to auto industry experts, these three are noted for the vehicle,

Profit: Criminals target the vehicle that can be sold quickly and for a profit.

Demand: The Highlander is a popular model in Canada, where it was the most stolen vehicle in 2023.

Vulnerabilities: Some models have keyless ignitions or lack anti-theft devices.

There are reports of the vehicle being transported overseas mainly in Asia and Africa for profits.
