Grand Jury indicts Laurelton man for rape

Acting Queens District Attorney John M. Ryan today announced that a Queens County grand jury has indicted a 54-year-old man on predatory sexual assault, first-degree rape, kidnapping and other charges for allegedly brutalizing two women inside his Laurelton, Queens, home. The first victim was allegedly knocked unconscious after the defendant offered her a ride home and then brought her to Queens from New Jersey and raped her. The second alleged assault occurred in May 2019, when a second victim was beaten and tortured for six hours.

Acting District Attorney Ryan said, "What these women endured was horrendous. This defendant is accused of repeatedly raping and beating both women two years apart. After being sexually assaulted in 2017, the first woman was allowed to leave the defendant?s home when she convinced him that she had called the police, even though the battery on her cell phone had died. In the most recent attack in May, the victim was literally tortured for six hours. This victim was dragged up a flight of stairs, struck in the head and body with a hard, blunt object and the details of the rape are so vile and unconscionable, what she allegedly experienced is beyond belief. The defendant has been apprehended after fleeing the state and returned to our jurisdiction. He will be held accountable for the terror he reigned on these two women. If convicted, the defendant could spend decades in prison.?

The District Attorney?s Office identified the defendant as Michael Hosang, 53, of 227th Street in theLaurelton neighborhood of Queens. The defendant was arraigned before Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth C. Holder Friday, October 4, 2019, and was ordered back to court today with his retained defense attorney. The defendant is charged in a 19-count indictment with predatory sexual assault, first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sexual act, first-degree aggravated sexual abuse,second-degree kidnapping, first- and second-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful sale or possession of an air pistol. Justice Holder held the defendant without bail and ordered him to return to court on October 29, 2019. If convicted, Hosang faces up to 50 years in prison.

Acting District Attorney Ryan said that, according to the charges, inside the defendant?s 227th Street home, shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019, Hosang punched the 30-year-old victim.

He followed up the first strike with repeated blows to her face and body and then allegedly placed her in a choke hold, ripped off her clothes and for hours raped her vaginally and anally. She broke away from him at one point, rushing for the door to escape, but the defendant caught up to her. He cornered her and allegedly dragged her back to the upstairs bedroom.

Continuing, according to the charges, inside that bedroom the woman?s wrists were handcuffed to the wall and her legs tied with a cord. For hours the defendant allegedly continued to sexually assault her. Hosang is alleged to have told the woman several times that he was going to kill her. At one point, the defendant left the room and the woman managed to pull her hands free from the cuffs and escaped by jumping from a second-story window and then climbing down a pipe.Naked, bruised and battered, the woman flagged down a man driving by, who called 911. The victim was treated at a local Queens hospital for multiple injuries, including a fractured cheekbone.

Continuing, according to the charges, said Acting DA Ryan, on September 29, 2017, shortly after 1 a.m., the defendant hounded a woman to attend a party with him. After frequent denials the then-38-year-old woman agreed and got into the defendant?s car in New Jersey. Once inside the vehicle, Hosang allegedly punched her and knocked her out cold. When she awoke, she was in Queens, outside the defendant?s home. He allegedly forced her inside the 227 Street house and raped her. Hosang is alleged to have continued the attack by dragging the woman upstairs, but she managed to grab her cell phone and ran into a closet, where she tried to call 911. However, the phone?s battery died. But she insisted to Hosang that she?d successfully reached the police and he permitted her to leave.

After the May 2019 attack, Hosang fled his home and traveled more than 3,000 miles to Bellingham, Washington. He was apprehended on June 20, 2019, and after an extradition hearing was transported back to Queens on Friday, October 4, 2019. (From Queens DA's Office)
