Feds raid homes in Long Island after report of birth tourism

The feds raided homes in Dix Hills, Center Moriches, East Patchogue, East Northport, Smithtown, Babylon and etc. reporting a large group of mothers arrived from Turkey under birth tourism fraud. Six people are in custody after a Town of Hempstead worker reported of irregularity with birth certificate issuance. This was promoted on FB with ads luring women with promises of citizenship for payment. 117 pregnant women from Turkey gave birth to 119 babies inside homes. The feds also reported $2.1 million in Medicaid fraud despite each mothers shelling out $10,000. Many of the mothers and their babies have returned back to Turkey. They are not part of the criminal investigation and the babies will keep their US citizenship. The investigation was reported from January 2017 to September 2020.
