Fatality from the flood in Queens basement apartments

Police first reported 3 people living in the basement died as a result of the flood.

This is inside a dwelling on Queens Blvd and 65th Street in Sunnyside. A family member went to conduct a wellness check and all were missing after the basement was flooded. Further investigation reported all died from drowning. Police reported 2 male and a 2 year old died as a result. Shortly, police were called to a basement apartment near Roosevelt Avenue and 84th Street where a woman, 86 was found unresponsive. EMS declared dead. This is in Elmhurst.

The second incident was reported at another basement on Hillside Avenue and 183rd Street where a mother, 43 and her 22 year old son were found dead in the water.

The third incident in Forest Hills on Horace Harding Expressway before the Grand Central Parkway where police reported a female, 48 found dead.

The new term for basement apartment is low level apartment.

The NYC mayor stated 8 of the 9 victims are from Queens. The other is in Brooklyn. 8 of them died in their homes. The 9th victim was found in the back of his car, stuck in the highway. Found this morning on Grand Central Parkway.
