Fatal incident in Westbury with three dead

Police are reporting three dead after vehicle crash and caught fire on LIRR track in Westbury.

This is on School Street crossing near Union Avenue around 7:30pm. Reporting LIRR shut down in both directions.

Multiple firefighters and paramedics are on the scene. The train hit a vehicle and according to Nassau County Police Commissioner, the westbound train heading to Penn Station derailed and went over the platform until stopped by the concrete section. The driver of the vehicle was trying to beat the light by going around the stop gate when the incident happened.

Police reported multiple injuries involving train passengers and many were taken to hospitals.

Multiple road closures in the area. Ongoing investigation.
