Driver sentenced for the death of Harleen Grewal of Astoria

The Brooklyn Supreme Court announced the sentencing of Saeed Ahmad, 24 of Brooklyn to 4 to 12 years after he pleaded guilty on November 27, 2018 for the death of Harleen Grewal, 25 of Astoria.

The incident happened on October 13 around 4am on Brooklyn Queens Expressway in Brooklyn after both were heading to Queens when the vehicle, 2007 Infiniti G35 that Ahmad was driving caught fire. Police reported Ahmad crashed the vehicle and later caught fire leaving Grewal inside and took off in a cab after flagging down on the expressway. Ahmad didn't call for help nor dialed 911.

Ahmad was arrested the same day at his home in the morning and Grewal's body was recovered by firefighters inside the vehicle.

The prosecutor stated Ahmad was speeding and then hit the barrier between the Hamilton Avenue and Prospect Expressway exits.
