Dead body of a child found inside a car in Long Island

Around 4pm on Monday, police were called to a parking lot in Smithtown, Suffolk County reporting a child inside a vehicle unresponsive.

After breaking the glass of a Jeep Cherokee, police confirmed the child is dead. Additional details were not provided by the police.

A car seat was removed by the police for continued investigation.

So far no arrests.

Update - According to law enforcement, a female, 54 forgot to drop off her 14 month old granddaughter to a daycare and left in a car seat in the back seat. Then went to work. After 8 hours, the same woman went to the pick up the child at a daycare realized she had left the child in her vehicle.
