DOT to enforce street vending

The NYC Dept of Sanitation will enforce street vendors starting April 1 including issuing tickets for garbage and removing those operating without a license. It was enforced before by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP).

The Mayor's Office reported there is a limit to vendors on streets despite over thousands of applicants pending. As of now the city has almost 1,000 vendors legally. The sanitation enforcement will have the equipment to match the vendor license from the illegal ones for verification. First, a written warning will be issued and then notify NYPD to confiscate items.

The whole mess started in downtown Flushing and a local council member demanded action for enforcement when sidewalks are all full with illegal vendors. The Mayor stated this process will collect names to add to the list for another possible agency in the future.
