Contractor arrested for arson and reckless endangerment of huge fire in Elmhurst

Elmhurst - FDNY Fire Marshals arrested Declan Mcelhatton, 53 of Maintenance Asset Management which operates out of Yonkers on Wednesday evening. Mcelhaton is charged with arson and reckless endangerment of the fire that occurred at the apartment building located on 57th Avenue and 94th Street on Tuesday around 6:30pm. More than 112 apartments had to be evacuated with people displaced in shelters and other locations. FDNY reported the cause of fire was due to open flame from combustible items on the cock loft by the roof. Thirteen people were injured including two firefighters. pic by FDNY. Reported 10pm.
