Community to hold vigil for a teen killed on Roosevelt Avenue

Nishath Jannath, 19, a Bangladesh native was working at a local company last night and was heading home. Sadly, the NYPD reported of a fatality on Roosevelt Avenue and 62nd Street in Woodside last night shortly before midnight. Further investigation says a private garbage truck allegedly struck the teen in the crosswalk. The medical examiner transported the body to conduct an autopsy. The garbage truck driver remained on the scene and continued to cooperate with the police. The original call came in for a pedestrian struck by train and later confirmed it was a vehicle on Roosevelt Avenue westbound while turning right on 62nd Street.

The teen's family is now preparing for the funeral and the community locals and neighbors are coming to her home.

The NYPD is continuing with the investigation.
