Binghamton man charged after making threat directed at State Senator on social media

On June 23, 2026, members of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested James A. Crosby, 49, of Binghamton, following an investigation into an alleged threatening social media comment directed at New York State Senator Lea Webb.

Crosby was charged with:

• Making a Terroristic Threat as a Hate Crime, a class “C” felony

The investigation determined that Crosby posted a threatening comment on Facebook in response to a WBNG news story featuring Senator Webb at a Juneteenth event.

Crosby was arrested on June 23, 2026, and transported to the Broome County Jail for centralized arraignment.

During the investigation, State Police determined that Crosby was in possession of firearms despite being prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction. Investigators recovered a rifle, a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and a firearm suppressor, all of which are prohibited under New York State law.

As a result, Crosby was additionally charged with four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, class “D” felonies.
