Astoria chiropractor busted for slip and fall scheme

Feds stormed into a chiropractic office in Astoria owned by Peter Kalkanis, 70 and charged with defrauding insurance using fake slip and fall scheme. It happened today afternoon. Four other suspects from Queens and one from Brooklyn were also placed in cuffs for recruiting people to pretend to fall on sidewalks and claim personal injuries in Queens. They are Bryan Duncan, 30, Kerry Gordon, 34, Robert Locust, 52 and Ryan Rainford, 28. More than $32 million dollars were at loss by various insurance companies between 2013 to 2018. Beside insurance companies, small businesses were affected after their accomplices fell fake to sidewalks pretending to be injured. Once the fake fall and slip occurs, recruited patients were taken to lawyers assigned to file lawsuits against businesses of sidewalks and then file with insurance companies. Feds reported the calculating amount stands at $31,791,000.00. If convicted, all are heading to jail for 20 years.
