14 children injured from a basement fire in Kew Garden Hills

FDNY reported a fire at a home on 147th Street around 2pm today. Further investigation reported this was a basement fire. 14 children were taken to hospital with injuries with one in serious condition. This is in Kew Garden Hills at 147-07 72nd Drive operating as a daycare center in the first floor. The children suffered smoke inhalation from the basement fire.

The building department is also working on the scene of a two story home.

Firefighters are working on the scene to determine what caused the fire but stated an electric scooter inside caused a fire. Ongoing investigation.
